    Participation

The Crescent Academy offers a wide range of sports opportunities for all of our children. The sport curriculum is based around 2 hours per week of Physical Education, where all Key Stages participate in various sports; such as football, gymnastics, dance and athletics. The children experience at least 4-5 different sports each term, helping them develop their all round sporting knowledge and ability. Throughout their time at Crescent, our children also receive swimming lessons at Fenton Manor.

This year we have introduced an initiative, called THE CRESCENT UNIVERSITY, to encourage the children to participate in as much sport as possible. The children earn credits for participating in a P.E. session (in their own P.E. kit), an after school club or representing the school in a competition. They work towards gaining a Gold, Silver or Bronze certificate at the end of every term, dependent upon how many credits earned. At the end of the year they will receive a Diploma in Sport Participation and a special sports prize, representative to the certificates achieved.

    Preparation

Crescent provides an extensive after school programme, offering fantastic opportunities to Years 1-6 to give them the chance to try new sports, which range from ballet to rugby and table tennis to dodgeball. Football sessions are carried out all year round, in preparation for either inter or intra competitions. Our after school clubs are all about the children keeping active and learning new skills, but most of all having fun! The after school club rota can be found below.

    Performance

The Crescent Academy makes sure that the children have ample opportunity to sample sport in a safe and competitive environment, allowing them to express their sporting ability. All the boys and girls compete in The Crescent Academy Intra League, where our school teams (Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury and Neptune) face each other every term in a variety of sports to win the LEGACY CUP. We also make sure the children enter competitions in sports such as dance, athletics and cross country throughout the year. The boys and girls Crescent football teams have regular fixtures and tournaments to fulfil every month. A full fixture list can be found below.

This year we have organised a Crescent Academy Football Festival, where 24 schools stretching the whole of Stoke-on-Trent visit our school to enter the competition. Every half term there is a Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Festival, and schools play it out to win that half terms trophy and also to progress into the Grand Final in May. All children involved receive a medal and enjoy a great competitive experience too.
