Year 6

Our final year of primary school has arrived, and what an exciting year we have ahead of us! Year 6 is a very special time, filled with new learning, exciting challenges, unforgettable experiences and, of course, plenty of fun along the way.

In Topic 1, we are exploring the big question, “What is the Amazon like?” through Geography. We are discovering the incredible wildlife that calls the Amazon home, exploring its unique climate and learning why the rainforest is so important to our planet. Alongside this, we are diving into Katherine Rundell’s thrilling novel The Explorer. The story links brilliantly with our topic and is providing plenty of opportunities for us to develop our reading skills, explore fascinating ideas and, most importantly, enjoy getting lost in a great book!

In Science, we are learning all about the circulatory system and discovering how our heart, blood and blood vessels work together to keep our bodies healthy and active. In RE, we are developing our understanding of Hindu beliefs and traditions, exploring how faith can influence the way people live their lives. We are also making time to look after our mental wellbeing, learning useful strategies to help us manage our emotions, feel calm and confident, and be ready to tackle whatever challenges come our way.

PE is giving us plenty of opportunities to get active as we develop our skills in dance and handball. From creativity and self-expression to teamwork, communication and healthy competition, we are certainly keeping busy!

And, of course, one of the biggest highlights of this half term is our exciting trip to Cornwall! We cannot wait to explore the incredible Eden Project, unwind in the geothermal pools and admire the spectacular views of St Michael’s Mount. This will be a fantastic opportunity to step outside the classroom, experience new challenges, spend time with our friends and create memories that will stay with us long after we leave primary school.

There is so much to look forward to as we begin our final chapter together. We are ready to learn, laugh, challenge ourselves and make this year one to remember. Year 6 has officially begun — and it is most definitely set to be a good one!
