Year 3 began their journey exploring the past with a trip to Middleport Pottery. We are studying how Stoke-on-Trent has changed in the past 200 years and how important the pottery industry has been to the city.
We visited the famous pottery factory, with a special tour and found out how they still produce pottery in the traditional way. The children stepped into an actual pot bank, explored the canal and found out what a ‘saggar makers bottom knocker’ was!
A trip to a pottery factory wouldn’t be complete without rolling up our sleeves and making our own mini bottle kiln out of clay.
