Crescent on tour again as Y5JB travelled to York!

This half term, 5JB travelled to York as part of our Anglo-Saxon and Viking unit for History. We absolutely loved our trip to York!! We followed in the footsteps of previous year groups and made our own memories as we travelled up north in search of Vikings. We visited the Jorvik Centre to learn all about Viking life. We also visited Jorvik Dig to become archaeologists and dig up the past. At Jorvik DIG, we learnt about Viking Sagas from a very convincing Norseman! This year, we were very excited as Mr Clewes had planned something new and exciting: a visit to Hole in Wand! This gave us chance to recall our class text from our last unit – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – and also play mini golf as we went in search of victory and the mysterious Grobblenook. We had great fun!!

During our visit, we were able to visit York Minster to learn about the history of the building from the Roman to the Viking period (and beyond) and also learn about monarchy from the time of the Romans to the late Queen, Elizabeth II. We got to see her statue in York that was unveiled by the King and Queen! We also visited Cliffords Tower where we learnt about the end of the period and how the Normans came to be part of British History. Finally, we took a spooky dive into crime and punishment at York Dungeon: it was very interesting and gave us a laugh and a ‘jump-scare’ into the bargain!
